If you’ve been following my blog for a while then you’ll know I’m a city-addict who’s obsessed with chasing sky-high views of these urban jungles, especially at night. (Brownie points if it’s an outdoor viewing spot – shoutout to Taipei, Shanghai and Hong Kong).
Singapore was no exception and I was delighted to find out about the ION Sky viewing deck in the city centre. Here is a not-so-well-known 360-degree viewing deck 218 metres up in the clouds that charges no admission fee! What more could you ask for?!
To reach it, head to the ION Orchard Mall which sits right above Orchard MRT station. Then take the escalators up to the 4th floor and the front desk staff there will direct you to the special express lift that takes up to the 55th floor. Easy!
One of the things I loved most about the ION Sky was that I was almost the only person up there! Unlike my miserable experience at Shanghai’s Pearl Tower, you won’t have to bash elbows with loads of overly keen tourists. I went at about 5pm on a weekday so perhaps it’s more crowded at the weekend or just before sunset but even still, it doesn’t seem like it’d be horrendously busy at peak hours.
Also, if you want to go up and watch the sunset, be warned that last admissions are at 7:30pm and the viewing deck closes at 8pm.
So there you go! Free, stunning, sweeping views across Singapore. Perfect.
